Bachelor's Thesis - Editorial and Web Design
'Beauty in the unexpected forms' explores Japanese traditional aesthetic values in the contemporary Japanese society and design. It examines the importance of emptiness (white) in design, in our living space and environment. The book is designed following the aesthetic values of 'white' closely, 'white' being similar to the Western notion of minimalism.
Therefore the book is almost entirely empty, and the reader must browse through the pages to find the next chapter that is designed in a way that everything unnecessary has been eliminated and the focus lies solely on the content. The same concept was applied onto website of the thesis, where the reader is only able to read one paragraph at a time and the rest is empty.
